Praying for Our Pastor, Part 4

Image
This is the final week of October and we close out our month of focused prayer for our pastor. I pray you have been blessed as you have prayed through the Scripture-based prayer prompts each day. Grounding our prayers in the words of God gives us confidence as we approach the throne.      Here are the final prompts to guide you in your prayer this week: 1.   Pray that God will give our pastor a clear, biblical vision of what our church can be and should be for His glory and that he will communicate that vision clearly and confidently to the church.  ( Proverbs 29:18 ;  John 15:16, 17:17 ) 2.  Pray that our pastor will seek God for personal revival and revival in our church and community. ( 2 Chronicles 7:14 ;  Psalm 69:32 ) 3.  Pray that our pastor will think biblically, with the mind of Christ. ( 1 Corinthians 2:16 ;  Colossians 2:6–8 ;  Ephesians 4:17 ) 4.  Pray that our pastor will earnestly s...

Praying for Our Pastor, Part 2

Throughout the month of October, I am challenging us to spend focused time in prayer for our pastor.  Do you know that some surveys report that less than half of church-goers pray for their pastor and leadership? This is a tragedy!  It really is no surprise that so much sin has overtaken our churches. Our pastor and leadership team need our prayer. Faithful leaders are enemies of the Prince of Darkness. Let us lift them up before our Father, asking Him to guide and protect them.       For Pastor Appreciation month, I am sharing prayer prompts for you to use in your focused prayer time for our pastor.  I encourage you to cover our pastor and leadership team in prayer on a regular basis. You may choose to pray one of these each day, or all of these in a time of extended prayer.  I find these type of prayer prompts helpful at times when my mind is exhausted or overwhelmed with life events. Using Scripture as the structure for my ...

Praying For Our Pastor

Image
October is traditionally "Pastor Appreciation" month.  I think it is wonderful that we make a special effort to show our pastor and his family that their labor and service for the Lord is noticed and loved. During this month, I would also like to challenge us to spend some focused time in prayer for our pastor. The enemy is desperately attempting to squelch the work of the Lord.  Those who faithfully bear witness to the gospel and serve the body of Christ are targets of the enemy's attacks in a way the rest of us may never experience.  While we should be in regular prayer for our pastor year round, I am challenging us to spend this month in special prayer for Pastor Rob, Autumn and Reese.      Sometimes we don't know what or how to pray.  Here are some prayer prompts that may help you this month.  Use one a day for a focused time of prayer, or pray through the list as you have time.  God inhabits the p...

It Is Well With My Soul

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll; Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul. We are all reeling from the images we are seeing of our neighboring communities after Hurricane Helene blew through our region and dropped unprecedented amounts of rain. TVA has stated this was a 1 in 5,000 year event. There has been much loss of life and personal property. With the loss of my nephew fresh on my mind, I have found myself thinking of the words and humming the old hymn "It is Well" frequently. The story behind this hymn (along with the lyrics) tells that the state of our soul is the only thing that truly matters.  The author, Horatio G. Spafford was a businessman from Chicago. He had a successful legal practice and was a devout Christian. Spafford’s lost almost everything overnight in the great Chicago Fire of 1871. To add to this tragedy, his young son had just passed away a short time before the fire...
