Praying for Our Pastor, Part 4
This is the final week of October and we close out our month of focused prayer for our pastor. I pray you have been blessed as you have prayed through the Scripture-based prayer prompts each day. Grounding our prayers in the words of God gives us confidence as we approach the throne.
Here are the final prompts to guide you in your prayer this week:
1. Pray that God will give our pastor a clear, biblical vision of what our church can be and should be for His glory and that he will communicate that vision clearly and confidently to the church. (Proverbs 29:18; John 15:16, 17:17)
2. Pray that our pastor will seek God for personal revival and revival in our church and community. (2 Chronicles 7:14; Psalm 69:32)
3. Pray that our pastor will think biblically, with the mind of Christ. (1 Corinthians 2:16; Colossians 2:6–8; Ephesians 4:17)
4. Pray that our pastor will earnestly seek God’s will and be committed to instant and complete obedience—ready for God to work powerfully in and through his ministry. (2 Corinthians 10:3–5; Luke 9:23–24)
5. Pray that our pastor will strive for personal excellence and will believe God for all He wants to do in our congregation. (2 Peter 1:3; Colossians 3:23–24)
6. Pray that our pastor will be a man of faith and have a passionate love for God, not giving in to worries, fears, or an uptight and anxious spirit. (1 John 4:18; Proverbs 3:5–6)
7. Ask God to provide for the financial needs of our pastor and his family. Pray that he will be a wise steward of both personal finances and church funds. (Philippians 4:19; Hebrews 13:5; 1 Timothy 6:6–11; Psalm 37:25)
Some more thoughts as we wrap up this Pastor Appreciation Month:
Let's not forget to pray through these Scripture-based prayers for our pastor and leadership on a regular basis. October is a great time to join together in a special time of appreciation, but the enemy is attacking these crucial leaders every day of the week, all year long. We have a duty and a privilege to uphold these men and their families in prayer and thankfulness all year long.
Let our pastor know that he is loved and appreciated. Don't just assume he knows. Take time to write a note or email. Call or message him. Encourage him in his ministry.
Consider Paul's words in I Timothy 5:17:
Elders who lead effectively are worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching.
Praise the Lord for a pastor who does work hard at preaching and teaching! God has blessed our congregation. Scripture reminds us that such men are worthy of double honor. This refers to financial support, but stems from hearts of gratitude for the faithful teaching and preaching of the Word of God. There is no higher calling or responsibility. Thank the Lord for our pastor today and don't forget to thank our pastor himself for his commitment to the service of God.
Thank you for joining me in this prayer challenge this month!
Soli Deo Gloria!
