Christ in Creation
For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
Romans 1:20
Recently I came across a short little devotional based on the protein called laminin. This protein is a binding protein that is essential to life -- basically it holds every molecule of our bodies together. It also "happens" to be shaped like a cross and has a construction of three strands that are wound together to form its shape. How fascinating is that? Could this have just "happened"? Extremely unlikely. Furthermore, Scripture tells us that the creation points us to the Creator. We are right to seek out these proofs of God's omnipotence and marvel. I love to find the gospel displayed in nature!
I did have to take issue with the devotional on its application. Maybe it was a technicality, but we must be super aware of anything that twists Scripture. This well-meaning individual connected the cross-design in laminin with Colossians 1:17, which reads, "He is before all things, and in him all things hold together." Where this devotional fell short is that it failed to point to Jesus, but rather spoke as if the cross was the glue that held all things together. So, just a warning for us to be careful in applying human interpretations. Be sure we are keeping the focus on Jesus. The cross has no power, apart from the role it played in the gospel story. All power is His! To give this power to the ugly hunk of wood is blasphemy.
That being said, how amazing is this little molecule? It does point us to Jesus. It shows us the eternal power and divine nature of our God! What an amazing evidence of intelligent design. The 3-strand construction teaches us of the Trinity. The cross points us to the amazing work of redemption accomplished by Jesus' crucifixion. We can and should rejoice and worship the Creator when we see evidences of Him clearly seen in His creation.
Are there other examples of this in creation? Yes!
Did you know that if you cut an apple cross-wise across the equator, the seeds in the center form the shape of the Star of Bethlehem?
The gospel can be found in the sun, moon and stars!
Today, I pray that I will look for and worship the Creator as I find evidences of Him in creation. What a wonderful God we serve! May I never take my eyes off of Him and place more importance on the creation than the Creator. Rather, may my focus always remain on Jesus, who is the Way, the Truth and the Life.
