What does the Reformation Mean to Me?

Today is October 31, also known as Reformation Day among many Protestant churches.  I have written in the past about the history of Reformation Day, and the pivotal importance of Martin Luther and his actions hold in the history of the Christian church. I won't go into all of that today. If you are unfamiliar with the Reformers, the events of the Reformation, and the power of the Catholic Church at the time, I encourage you to do a little research. It will bring you to your knees in thankfulness to God for the courage and faith of these men who gave their all in defense of Scriptural truth.

I read recently some thoughts from some amazing women of God as they shared what the Reformation meant to them. The common theme was anchors for our soul.  The great men of faith of the Reformation were clinging to the anchors of Christ as the sole source of our salvation, Scriptural as the sole source of truth,  faith in Christ as the only action to obtain salvation, God's grace is the sole basis of our salvation, and all of this is only accomplished to bring Glory to God alone.  You can look into these "5 Solas" for a powerful, life-changing study as well.

These truths are Scriptural truths that are the anchors for our soul.  What does this mean for me? This is a mixture of my thoughts and those I learned from from the panel of godly women I referred to earlier. Maybe these will encourage you in your walk with God today.

It means that I can rest in the Sovereignty of God. It means that I do not have to be in control, because I can trust the One who has it all in His hands.

It means that Christ is my source of peace and strength when everything around me is falling apart and I am anxious and on the brink of panic. It means that God is good!  His plans are good! I have no need to fear!

It means that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

It means that I have hope... not a pie in the sky, wishful hope, but a hope based on the faithfulness of God to always fulfill every promise.  It means my hope is based on a real, living, all-powerful Person, not circumstances.

It means that I must rely on Him for my every need.  I must relinquish all control and that allows me to give up so much self-inflicted stress.

It is allowing myself to be guided and filled by the Holy Spirit, who allows His fruit to be born in me.

It means that God is faithful and I can trust Him.

Happy Reformation Day.  I pray that these anchors are yours today!

Soli Deo Gloria!!
