Praying For Our Pastor, Part 3
Did you know that honoring our pastor and leadership is directly commanded in Scripture? I Thessalonians 5:12-13 says:
And now, friends, we ask you to honor those leaders, who work so hard for you, who have been given the responsibility of urging and guiding you along in your obedience. Overwhelm them with appreciation and love.
I Timothy 5:17 tells us:
The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching.
Praise God for a pastor and leadership who lead well, faithfully teaching the Word and leading by faith! These men are worthy of our appreciation. Honoring them begins with faithful prayer. Let's continue with another week of focused, Scripture-based prayer for our pastor throughout this month of October.
1. Praise God that our pastor is a “Great Commission man”—committed to personal evangelism and the equipping of the saints to seek the lost. Pray that he will always have a heart for missions as he leads our church in reaching out to the lost of our community. (Romans 10:15; Mathew 28:19–20; Luke 19:10)
2. Pray that our pastor will be a man of prayer and worship and that he will lead by example—teaching the congregation how to walk in a close relationship with the Father. (1 Thessalonians 5:17; Acts 1:14; Mark 1:35)
3. Pray that our pastor will use wise time management and that he will seek God’s perspective for his schedule, guarding his time against unnecessary interruptions. (Ephesians 5:15–16; Colossians 4:5; Psalm 90:12; John 9:4)
4. Pray for a fresh divine anointing on our pastor’s ministry. Pray that God’s working will be powerfully evident both in his personal life and the spiritual life of our church. (1 Corinthians 9:27; 2 Timothy 1:7; Romans 15:18–19)
5. Pray that our pastor will not give in to discouragement, but will deal with inevitable criticism and conflict by committing himself into the hands of God, who judges righteously. (1 Peter 2:23)
6. Pray that our pastor will continue to practice servant leadership, edifying the congregation with wisdom and serving with God’s agape love. (Galatians 5:13; Ephesians 6:7; Mark 10:43–45; John 13:5–9; Philippians 2:3–4)
7. Pray for spiritual unity in the church staff and among the spiritual leadership of the church. Pray that the enemy will not be allowed to create divisions, strife, or misunderstanding among the church leaders. (Romans 12:18; 14:19; 1 Corinthians 1:10–31)
Let's continue to cover our Pastor, his wife and daughter, as well as the leadership of our church in prayer during this month. Join me in this challenge. I can assure you that your heart will be blessed as you lift up our leaders to the Father.
Soli Deo Gloria!
