Grounded in Truth
Life is so uncertain. We never know what is going to be thrown at us. All the self-help or parenting books in the world, cannot truly prepare you for that feeling that comes when you actually experience an event. The truth is that all of us experience anxiety, fear, grief, and sorrow. It is part of our fallen nature. Adam and Eve did not know fear or anxiety until they disobeyed in the Garden. Ever since, humanity has been crippled with the effects of sin, deeply imbedded in each heart from birth.
Satan has so many lies that he wants us to believe. One such lie is that we will always be controlled by our fears and anxiety. He wants us to think that we will always be consumed by grief. He wants us to believe that God is not enough. Somehow, someway, we have to do something or find some magic potion that will help us "snap" out of our circumstances and finally have joy, money, and satisfaction. These are just a few of the untruths that Satan has placed in our minds and he uses society around us to perpetuate and reinforce these horrible, horrible lies.
I am reminding myself today of the truth that sets us free from Satan's lies. Truth is the light that dispels darkness. Truth is the key that sets prisoners free. Truth restores the broken heart to wholeness. Truth defeats the lies of inadequacy, fear, anxiety, grief, and even addictions. Truth break us free of the prison of our minds and earthly comparisons.
Yes, Jesus is truth. He has the power to dispel all those forces of darkness at work inside of us -- and He will! We must turn to Scripture and place our full faith in the One who has already defeated the Enemy. He offers us that victory. Loving Truth brings our minds under the power of the Savior! How can I know that? Scripture tells me so:
Jesus said, "I am the way, the TRUTH, and the life." John 14:6
Revelation 19:11 tells us of Jesus, whose title is "Faithful and True."
Jesus is the Word (John 1:1) and says in John 17:17, "Sanctify them in the truth, your word is truth."
John 8:32 promises us, "You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." (I like exclamation points. If it were me writing that, I would add an exclamation point!)
There is so much more in Scripture about truth, but these few verses assure me that it is possible to know the Truth -- Jesus. Jesus is revealed in Scripture. There is where we find the keys to dispelling the lies that take our minds captive. We must know the Word of God through the Word of God. There the Spirit of the Lord brings peace, comfort, yes even joy to our hearts even in the midst of the most intense grief and anxiety.
I am praying with the Psalmist today, "Lead me in your truth." Psalm 25:5 "Cause me to know your lovingkindness in the morning, for I trust in You." Ps. 148:3
May we know the Truth that has all the power over the lies of this world.
