Sure Promises

As parents, Sam and I learned quickly to be very careful about making promises.  Kids never forget a promise made to them!  When the inevitable happens that makes keeping a promise impossible, there is nothing more heartbreaking than seeing your child's face crumbling in sadness, "But, you promised!" As humans, we cannot control the weather, illness, human forgetfulness, other people's circumstances, unforeseen expenses, etc. --- all of which may delay or even cancel a "promised" gift or experience.  Parents desire to give good gifts and desire to please their children, but at times we fail.  Even the best of parents fail. We are human.

We have the assurance in Scripture of trusting a God who ALWAYS fulfills every promise He has ever made. What a precious gift! Our God is trustworthy, and He has proven this time and time again. How do we know that we can trust Him? By looking at His faithfulness to keep His promises in the past, we find hope and security to rest in His promises for the future. Let's look at just a few of those promises He has kept. There are many more than these, but I hope that this will inspire you to look them up for yourself in your Bible.

God kept His promise to Abraham.  He promised in Genesis 17:4 to make Abram the father of many nations.  He did!

God provided a Redeemer.  In Genesis 3:15 we see the promise of a Savior.  Throughout the Old Testament, more details were given about Who that was and how the redemption would take place.  Each and every promise was kept perfectly through Jesus!

God kept His promises to Israel. Deuteronomy 28:9 tells us that God promised to make the nation of Israel His Holy people if they would obey His commands.  He did.  Over and over again, He sent blessing after blessing to them when they followed His law.  He also was faithful to punish them when they failed to obey His clearly spelled out commands.

In John 1:12 God promises to give everyone who believes in His name the precious title, His own child!  He does! We who have received Him are children of God!

By looking at promises kept by our All-Powerful God, I pray that you are encouraged, as I have been, to trust Him for the future. What has He promised? Let's look at just a few of those promises:

He promises to make all things work for good for those that love Him and are called according to His purpose.  Romans 8:28

He promises mercy and grace in times of need.  Hebrews 4:16

He promises He will never blot out our name from the Book of Life.  He promises to speak our name before the Father and the angels.  (WOW! How amazing is this promise??) Revelation 3:5

He promises to reign with righteousness and justice. Revelation 19

Whatever you are facing right now: uncertain future, illness, broken heart, prodigal child or children, discouragement in marriage, betrayal, addiction, financial crisis, etc., I pray you find encouragement and peace in knowing that we serve a trustworthy God who is at work, right now, in your circumstances.  Dig into your Bible and find these promises.  (There are dozens of them!) Cling to these promises.  Rest in them. Give your situation to God and watch Him redeem it for His glory! He makes ALL THINGS beautiful `-- in His time!

Soli Deo Gloria!
