A Promise Kept: Merry Christmas!

      Merry Christmas!  This beautiful season has been full of beautiful reminders of what Jesus's birth means to the people of God.  I have been blessed as I have meditated on the wonder of God giving His Only Son to be born in full humanity to a humble, blessed virgin girl.  The plan of redemption was set in motion with this glorious event.  This simple, poorly-written little piece is just a bit of the swirl of thoughts going through my mind this Christmas season.  Our Faithful Father, full of grace and love is worthy of our praise and thanksgiving, at Christmas and always! Merry Christmas!


Promise Fulfilled

To Adam and Eve
In shame and guilt hidden,
Grace was extended;
A promise was given.

The penalty: death.
No sin enters heaven
To rescue man's plight
A promise was given.

To Abram's children
Count the stars twinkling gold
Honoring the faithful,
A promise foretold.

In Providence wise
Joseph, to Egypt driven.
Preparing, protecting
A promise was given.

The Passover Lamb;
Every law of old.
Foreshadows redemption;
A promise foretold.

The cord of Rahab,
In scarlet color bold.
Beautiful gospel plan,
A promise foretold.

Babe in a manger,
Herod desired to kill.
Fully God, fully man -
The promise fulfilled!

The shadow of Calv'ry
Looms thru the dark night's chill.
But the star shines brighter,
The promise fulfilled!

Redemption's story,
Before the cross on a hill
Is the gift of Jesus.
The Promise fulfilled!

Jesus is the Bread of Life

Bread of Life Digital Art by April Moen fineartamerica.com        My mom made homemade bread for our large family (12 kids) for all of my years in her home.  She ground wheat berries, mixed dough, kneaded, formed and baked four to eight loaves every two or three days.  Oh, I love the smell of fresh homemade bread just coming out of the oven!  There is simply no better taste, in my opinion, than butter on a piece of warm, freshly baked bread.  This bread was a staple in our home and provided a good part of our daily nutrition.  It "stuck to your ribs," as Mom used to say, especially when topped with Mom's homemade peanut butter and honey from Dad's bee hives! My Shepherd Will Supply My Need

  Recently my sister reminded me of a song our dad loved to sing.  My dad loved the Psalms and had a dream to see all 150 of them put to music in a form that anyone could sing.  He wrote music to five of them himself.  The lyrics to this particular song is a paraphrase of Psalm 23, written by Isaac Watts who wrote many hymns in the 1800s.  It was put to an old Southern folk hymn melody and is a simple, beautiful melody that runs through your mind for a long time once you hear it.  If you would like to listen to it, here is one  version of it:  My Shepherd Will Supply My Need .  Here are the lyrics:  My Shepherd will supply my need: Jehovah is His Name; In pastures fresh He makes me feed, Beside the living stream.
