Is He Worthy?

Image
Often, my soul just needs to worship. There are no words that are adequate to convey the exultation that our Savior is worthy of receiving.  He is still worthy of all the adoration and joy that we can give.  When our hearts are broken, He is still worthy of praise.  When our hearts are full of gratitude and love, He is worthy.  When our faith is weak, He is worthy of our praise.  Whether on the mountaintop or the valley, He is worthy!     Worship and adoration is not only for Sunday morning.  He is worthy each and every moment of our lives. His work of sanctification in our hearts calls us to live lives of perpetual worship.      Today as I study, I am overwhelmed with the call to worship the one who is worthy of all I have to offer, and so much more.      Join me in a simply stopping and offering adoration and honor to the Lamb who sits on the Throne right now.  This Andrew Peterson song is o...

Life of Full Surrender

Image
In living a life of full surrender to Christ, often it seems like living in a Dr. Seuss book, doesn't it?  Everything is so opposite of what we think is natural and the way our human minds want to think. Our human nature is so sinful and Satan has distorted the messages of the culture to the point that we don't always even know what is up or down.  Satan is the author of confusion and delights in seeing us flounder and wring our hands in frustration. Paul said it best in Romans 7:19-20:   "For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not do, that I do."  (If that doesn't sound just like a Dr. Seuss book!)     The fact is that if we desire freedom from confusion, as well as true peace, we must undergo a complete submission to the Spirit of God. A life of full submission to the Savior is one of complete freedom. To be the greatest of all, we must be the servant of Him who is the Creator of all.  Blessed are the meek. ...

Our Source of Peace

Image
Some  days we just need some encouragement, don't we?  When the trials of life overwhelm us, whether it is people or circumstances, our hearts can get heavy.  Often our minds are too muddled to even think through the issues in front of us.  There are times that the only thing that seems to calm our frustrated or hurting hearts is music.  Ephesians 5:19 and Colossians 3:16 both tell us that we are to speak to one another (Christians) in "psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs." What are these three types of music?  If you look at these three terms, they are actually all referring to the Psalms of Scripture! They refer to three different types or categories of the Psalms.  There are some Christians who use these verses to argue that the words of the Psalms are the only lyrics that should be sung in the church.       I am not calling us to "solo Psalmody" in our church.  However, I do want us to consider that we are told ...

"A Brand Plucked From the Burning"

Image
Image Source: DiscoverQuotes.com     On this, America's Independence Day, ironically, I found a story from England to share:      Samuel and Susanna Wesley were parents of  19 children, 9 of which survived infancy. Samuel was a minister in the Church of England in the late 1600's  to early 1700's.  These parents were extremely conscientious to train their children in the knowledge of the Scriptures from the earliest ages.      One night in 1709, their home caught on fire.  Starting in the corn room, it spread quickly to the dry thatched roof.  Pieces of burning thatch dropped onto 12-year-old Hetty's bed, waking her.  She ran screaming to her parents, who quickly gathered their children as best they could, guiding them down the burning staircase. Leaving all their possessions to the fire, they desperately shielded their children from the smoke and flames to the safety outside. Susanna was late in her pregn...
