Let Christ's Words Dwell in You

Image
The Psalms are full of beautiful, lyrical praise to our God.  I know I am guilty of glancing over a Psalm in my Bible reading and saying, "Aw, isn't that nice?" and glibly moving on to my next reading.  Digging into my Bible recently, I rediscovered Colossians 3:16. I started looking into it just a little bit.    Let  the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom,  singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,  with thankfulness in your hearts to God.      "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly..."  Is that the desire of your heart? Is this a reality for you? Paul gave this as a directive to the church. This means it is an attainable goal for each of us, if we choose.   For the "word of Christ" to dwell in us, this tells us we need to be spending a lot of time there.  We need to be reading, memorizing and meditating on this frequently, even constant...

A Legacy of Faith

(Repost from a couple of years ago)      I am sentimental by nature.  I love things and pictures that remind me of times and people gone by.  But when I hit different milestones myself, I grow even more retrospective.  This tendency is not always healthy. It is easy to fall into traps of self-pity and wallow in our perceived loss.  However, we can learn from meditating on the lessons passed on by those who have gone before us.  These can serve as building blocks for us to build a legacy of faith and dedication to serving our Savior.       If you will indulge me, I would like to reminisce about my mother a bit.  Mom graduated to her heavenly home almost 20 years ago.  My birthday was a couple weeks ago and  I have reflected frequently on the fact that I am roughly the same age as my mom was when she received her cancer diagnosis.  A couple of health scares (which God graciously...

The Great Commission

Photo source: www.etsy.com      In just a bit over two weeks, it will be VBS time at our church! The organizing, planning and decorating will all come together as we share the Good News of Jesus in a fun-filled atmosphere with several precious little ones.  This is one way in which our church fulfills what has come to be known as the Great Commission. This charge was handed to the disciples right before Jesus ascended to Heaven.  This, along with the Greatest Commandment are the mission statements for the church and every believer.  They go hand in hand and work synergistically to  build up believers as well as build the Body of Christ (His Church).   Let's look at them both briefly.  Jesus give us the Greatest Commandment in Mark 12: 30-31:   Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.   The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no com...

Life is Precious

Image
The debate over the sanctity of life is back in the news again.  Times like these bring questions from our young ones about a lot of terms that may not be familiar to them.  It hurts my heart that our young children even hear about such atrocities as abortion and euthanasia. As my husband and I  attempt to answer candidly, yet age appropriately, our primary focus has been to show our children that all human life, from conception to rightful death is precious in the eyes of God.       Unfortunately, even Christians are influenced by the world's views on this matter.  On the matter of the sanctity of life, Christians should be on the frontline of the battle.  Increasingly, we are at best complacent and non-committal.  Often this is simply from a lack of a Biblical world-view.  When we remove the Bible as our textbook for life, we lose our anchor and the secular world-view seems reasonable to our mind.  ...
